Joan Hull Obituary

Joan Hull May 12,1927 - Feb. 1, 2017 Joan Hull was born May 12, 1927 in Great Barrington, MA to John B. Hull Jr. and Eleanor Williamson Hull. She was educated in the local schools and graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon and Skidmore College, majoring in art. Joan was employed for 30 years with Celanese Corp. in New York City. She has said that the really lively part of her life started upon joining the New York City Chapter of the National Organization of Women (NOW) in 1967. She held various offices at the local and national level for NOW as well as served on Compliance and Enforcement Task Forces at AT&T, NY Telephone and on local and national level. She presented NOW's feminist proposals at Celanese annual meetings. Due to her efforts, as well as other feminists, these proposals boosted the movement to place women on the Board of Directors of American Corporations. She leaves behind her husband of 43 years Dale Kelly, San Rafael, her sister Eleanor (Elee), San Rafael, her brother, John B. Hull III, Great Barrington, MA, step children Darcy Shaw (William), Tucson, AZ, Dan Kelly, Auburn, CA, Leslie Hall, Boise, ID, Scott Kelly (Chi), Hong Kong and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Upon retirement Joan and Dale traveled the world via motorhome, ship and air. Mexico was a favorite spot and they spent many years in their home in Rincon de Guayabitos during the winter enjoying the sunshine and special friends. Joan was an avid and dedicated bridge player, whether on the high seas, Mexico or Marin County. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NOW, Planned Parenthood or any feminist organization of your choosing.
