Louis Vaccaro Obituary

Louis (Lou) Vaccaro Lou was born in 1925 on the sunniest day of the year, June 21. He was raised in San Francisco, where he grew up playing pick up football with his friends and brothers. He flunked high school, but that didn't stop him from joining the Navy and getting his diploma over seas while serving on a sub chaser in WWII. When he returned he took his hard work to the north, where he logged redwoods in the gold country. Lou was very optimistic, taking life's opportunities by the handful He was a guard at San Quentin, and in his later years he worked at PG&E where he met his beautifiil wife of 57 years, Jean and retired as an electrical engineer. Lou was also a loving father of three, Anthony, Chris, and Valoree. He always loved spending time with his kids, Valoree remembers her father helping them shoot arrows into his haystack and gathering them, despite his strong allergies. Lou shared something with everyone whether it be through stories, knowledge, or actions, he acted as a role model to all. There was a time when he introduced his grandson Louie to his love of cars, allowing him to help do maintenance and educating him on how to keep his 1946 Jeep in prime condition for more than 60 years. Anybody he talked to seemed a little happier, especially his grandkids; Gianni, Lia, and Louie. He showed his hard work and passions through gardening, golf, tennis, hunting, fishing, maintaining his property, friends, family, and in ultimately every facet of his life. He connected with each individual in a unique, but memorable fashion, making him a person whom will always be loved and remembered. At his request there will be no services.

While doing some online research on my grandparents (Louie's father and mother) this site popped up. I am Uncle Louie's nephew, my father was Louie's brother Joe (1921-2011).

Uncle Louie was not just my uncle - he was also a friend to my sister Nicky (1950-2015) and I. During the 1950's we spent weeks at a time during the summer in Fairfax at my grandmother's. Louie would regale us with stories and take us for rides on the undeveloped hilltops around Fairfax in his Jeep. He always made us feel loved with his calm voice and great sense of humor. We had numerous family holiday dinners in Fairfax with Louie and Jeannie. I still miss him to this day.

Lou was always full of stories about the old days in Fairfax and San Francisco as he spent time with the morning coffee group at the Koffee Klatch and later the coffee shop across Sir Francis Drake Blvd. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

There are just a few people in my life that have had such a profound and positive influence as Mr. Vaccaro. I've shared many stories with my children about being raised in Fairfax and the amount of time we spent playing in the Vaccaro's back yard. From paths mowed in the tall grass to hide easter eggs on each side, to playing football, golf and baseball (and breaking some fences and windows occasionally), to playing hide-n-go-seek--he provided a safe place to grow up. I loved hearing his stories about what Fairfax was like in the old days-- for example, he used to hunt and fish in what is now Oak Manor. He was always teaching through his curiosity. I remember him asking a 7th or 8th grader at White Hill why he dyed his hair purple?
My Love, thoughts and prayers for the Vaccaro's. No doubt that his legacy lives on through all who's paths have crossed.

I am so sorry to hear about sweet Lou. He was such a gem of a man. I always remember feeling so up beat after having conversations with him even as a small child. My brother Chuck told me tonite that he had died and I was shocked. May the Vacarro family get through this time as best as possible. Reggie
