Marlene Lind Obituary

Marlene Joy Lind Longtime resident of Corte Madera and mother of three, passed away at her home on December 24, 2005, with family by her side. Born on February 12, 1936, Marlene leaves behind two daughters, Janine Lind (Chris) Coughlin, Lorane Lind, a son, Dean Jon (Maureen) Larson, and five grandchildren, Alex and Jenna Coughlin and Rita, Megan and Andrew Larson. A friend to many and all whom she met, Marlene will be greatly missed by the Marin community at large. Marlene first came to the Bay Area from her home in Wisconsin when her father, Al Bloomquist, was given a job as a prison guard on Alcatraz. After living in San Francisco for a year, she moved with her family to Corte Madera where she lived for 63 years until her passing. An individual who has always been an active member of her community, Marlene shares a rich connection with Marin County. In her younger years, she attended LCM School in Larkspur, and later became a member of the original sophomore class at Drake High School. When Marlene started a family of her own, her former husband, Lee Larson, became the first paid Firefighter of the Corte Madera Fire Department. Later on in her life, Marlene worked for the Ross Post Office for 20 years until her retirement in 2000. Her values centered upon family, virtue, and independence. She held on tightly to her roots, and stressed the importance of remembering familial and national history. Proud of her American present and her Swedish past, Marlene emphasized remembering all those who have gone before. The blessings of America were something she treasured, and were at the core of her extreme independence as she exhorted to us all that "Freedom is never free". At her request a private family service will be held.

Marlene, my best friends mother. Like a mother to me. She always had the best advice to give, always had nothing but positive words to say for the right situation. In her eyes, I could do no wrong-In my eyes, she only did what was right. Even though her presence is absence, her kind words, her smile, her wisdom, and her heart is always going to be in our dreams and heart. I love you Marlene!

Thank you for giving me my best friend, and thank you for beleiving in me. See you there. LOVE TAN........

What good times we had--rearing our children, a cruise through the Panama Canal, walks on Chapman Hill with her dog(s), long long phone conversations. She will truly be missed.

missed.
