Marvin Mars

1928 - 2016

Marvin Mars Marvin passed away peacefully on November 7, 2016 in his Tiburon home at the age of 88. Marvin was born to Charles and Bertha Mars on September 26, 1928 in Binghamton, New York and was raised in the Bronx. He served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Korean War. Marvin worked as a furniture manufacturer's representative in San Francisco, California and later, as a Sonoma County real estate agent. He was passionate about working with local organizations and served on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Press Club, Sonoma County Human Services, Marin County Health Council and in his later years, for Whistlestop, delivering meals and grocery shopping for home-bound residents. Marvin was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Tatarian. He is survived by his wife, Alyce, his stepdaughters, Aimee Caplis and Sara Tamer, and his four adoring grand-children, Joe and Caroline Caplis, Nicolas and Matthew Tamer. A funeral service was held November 14 at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael with a private burial. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice By The Bay.
