Michael James Garvey On Saturday, December 19, 2020, Michael James Garvey, loving husband and father of four, passed away at his home at the age of 77 after a long illness. Michael was born on March 14, 1943 in Olwein, Iowa to Michael Sr. and Sophie Garvey. He received a degree in Mathematics from the University of San Francisco, in 1965. Michael married his wife Kathleen (Kitty) Kent in 1969, and together they raised four children: Patrick, Timothy, Daniel, and Brigid. Michael was an entrepreneur, starting several successful businesses over the course of his lifetime, including Zeta Systems, a computer programming company, and Crestwood Communities, a local home builder and developer. Michael had a passion for learning. Over the course of his lifetime, he taught himself Spanish, quantum physics, new computer languages, and always kept up with the latest in technological advances. He also had a habit of picking up new and interesting hobbies over the years. He and Kitty traveled to Antarctica in 2007, just one of many memorable trips taken. Michael was an avid reader and was rarely without a book. While he may not have had the same love for big social occasions as his wife, he supported her without fail and the many charities they supported. Michael was known for his intellect, kindness, sense of humor, and love of family. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Sr., his mother, Sophie, and son, Timothy. He is survived by his wife Kathleen; his three children and their spouses, Patrick (Trang), Daniel (Marie), and Brigid Garvey Adkins (Antwine); seven grandchildren: Aidan, Keira, Jameson, Hailey, Brayden, Ada, and Isaiah; three siblings, John Garvey, Sister Helen Garvey, SNJM, and Joan Keaton; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list, but not forgotten. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Glendora, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sisters of Holy Names in Campbell, California; or Mary's Mercy Center in San Bernardino, California.
