Paul Frederick Harkins

On September 29, 2022, the sweet, tender soul of Paul Frederick Harkins passed on. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, he was a son of Marcia and Herb Harkins, brother to Elizabeth, Rob, and Mary, partner to Sandra, father figure to Allie, and loving friend to many.As a child Paul love to ski and explore the Catskills Mountains in New York with his family and cousins often at the country home of his grandfather, Harry, an avid fly fisherman. These were happy times for him and gave Paul a love of the natural world which he continued to explore throughout his life, later in Marin county and the Tahoe National Forest. He attended the Arlington Schools and later Portsmouth Abby School where Father Ansel was mentor and a friend. Like his mom he loved the written word. He obtained an English major at Skidmore College, and was happiest with a pen and paper in hand. After graduation, he moved to LA to become a screenwriter, and wrote several great screenplays. Later he chased a second dream of creative woodworking and became a specialized skilled craftsman in Marin County.Paul loved adventure and travel. He spent a year teaching English in Taipei, pursued photography in Hawaii, and explored Costa Rica, France, and Mexico. Throughout his life he loved spontaneous road trips. An avid tennis player, he will be missed in the tennis community of Marin County. He was a true trivia master, had a thirst for knowledge and a curiosity unlike anyone else in this world. He was especially enthusiastic about music, and loved to collect old and rare items: movies, books, vintage typewriters, and vintage chainsaws.Paul was known for his ability to cook a feast: steak to perfection and deep fried turkey at Thanksgiving. He made people smile and laugh with his storytelling and humor, and was a great friend to many. He will be missed and remember everyday.
