Peter Stehlik

Peter Karl Stehlik of Novato, CA, died unexpectedly on Thursday Jan 11, 2024. Peter was born on January 25, 1938 in Roemerstadt (now in Czech Republic) and grew up in Ulm, Germany, where he trained to be a chef. He worked at several large hotels in Germany where he also met Marlise, his wife. At the age of 27, he came to America. After about a year, Marlise came to join him. They were married in San Francisco and bought a home in Novato, CA. Peter continued to work as a professional chef for over 35 years in San Francisco and Marin County. He was the head chef at El Paseo in Mill Valley and The Caprice in Tiburon for many years. He retired at the age of 65, but he continued to cook for every family holiday, German club events, for friends and just for himself and his wife. He showed his love with his cooking.He loved to play tennis, work in the garden, go mushroom hunting and fishing, play cards, and have a beer with friends. But making sure his family was safe and taken care of was most important to him.He is survived by his wife, Marlise Stehlik, his children, Chris Stehlik and Tina Stehlik O'Brien and his grandchildren, Connor O'Brien and Maureen O'Brien.We were not ready for him to be taken from us so suddenly and we will miss him every day.In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Peter's honor to the Our Lady of Loretto School Scholarship Fund.
