Robert J. Schilling

1931 - 2021

Robert J. Schilling Bob Schilling was born June 4, 1931 to Tessie and Adam Schilling. He died August 4, 2021 at his home in Guerneville, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a multi-talented, generous, kind and forgiving man. A welcoming host, a free thinker, avid reader, hard worker and a great provider for both family and friends. He bought the existing Perry's Deli in November 1958, and expanded to many other locations. His goal was to keep the small businesses independent and free from encroachment of big business. He attended Laurel Del, St. Raphaels, San Rafael High, College of Marin, and San Francisco State. He served in the army during the Korean War, was sent to Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma and served as an airframe mechanic in Echterdingen, Germany. He was able to play baseball with the Army team and travel all over Europe; a gifted athlete. He will be deeply missed by his best friend and wife, Rose; his children, Teresa, Katie, Michael (Tina), and Patty; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and countless extended family and friends. There will be a celebration of his generous spirit and full life, to be held at a later date at their home in Guerneville.
