Hello Cha Cha,
Thank you for telling me about Roberto's memorial service today; I attended online.
One of the priests described him as gentle and that is the word that will come to mind when I think of him. I didn't hear the self-introduction of the family member who spoke, but I think it was one of his sisters. She did a wonderful job of talking about Roberto's life and how loving he was.
It was touching to hear what the younger generation remembered about how special he made them feel.
He did the same with his clients. Like you and his family and friends, I miss him but am so fortunate to have had him in my life for over 30 years.
My sincere sympathies to all of you,
Debbie Hornberger

Uncle Bobby, how crazy it is that when I smell fresh tar my thoughts are of your soft voice and gentle ways. I remember at about the age of 11 you gave me my first Nehru, giving me a lifelong love for bohemian styles. You made time to create many fun childhood memories making puzzles, playing board games and even a few haircuts! Yet the most significant gift for me is your example of service to others. Your legacy continues strong and by the grace of God the actions we have to others will mirror your kind, patient, steadfast and loving character. Te Quiero mucho Tío.

Roberto our beautiful Uncle Bobby...we always called him that until we became adults, then it was Tio Roberto. The man whose legacy will live on, like the Saints he so admired and followed. He lived in Peacock Gap...and he was like a male peacock, full of color, full of life and happiness, a protector, a man of God, and a believer in Equality. His lifelong commitment to the unfortunate at San Quentin is amazing and at the same time sad, due to his illness and COVID Roberto missed an important part of his life the past year or more, and I know he was missed and will always be loved and remembered. Roberto always looked after Abuelita Felicitas, his beloved mother and all of his family including my Mama Elisa, and Bob and Uncle Bobby's visits every weekend (sometimes with fresh caught catfish) were something we always looked to with excitement, and may your rebirth in Heaven bring you joy and peace! Light shine on, Roberto your light is eternal.
