Roderick LOVE Obituary

Died – October 26, 2014
On Sunday evening Rod died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and his dogs, as was his wish. He bravely fought a short battle with pancreatic cancer with dignity.
Born in Yorkton, Sask., Rod grew up in various cities in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Nova Scotia finally settling in his beloved Calgary in 1976.
Rod was an amazing, caring, loving husband, father, brother and a prominent politician who was also a diehard Detroit Red Wings fan. He is survived by his beloved wife Charlene, his cherished children, James (Aimee), Katie and Haley, along with his siblings Jackie Sterling, Tom Love, Larry Love and Maureen Love and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Bee Love.
Family, friends and colleagues are invited to a Celebration at the Calgary Golf and Country Club (One and one half blocks West of Elbow Drive on 50th Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks you make a donation to the Alberta Cancer Society on his behalf.

Charlene and Family: Our sincere sympathy on the loss of your best friend and soul mate.
Kathy and I share in your sorrow as our son Ken died within hours of Rod's passing.
We did not go to the memorial at the Country Club - but, reflected instead on the many personal times shared with Rod and Ralph in Edmonton as well as Calgary Elbow functions.
I recall the evening Rod and I had supper at the "Keg Off White". As the evening progressed, he took time out to phone to wish you a happy anniversary.I believe his comments after hanging up were -" My wife and kids are in Calgary, and here I am in Edmonton celebrating my anniversary with Clarke - Ain't politics great....No offence Fred!"

Charlene and family. I am so sad to learn of Rod's passing. I am currently out of the country and regret not being able to attend Rod's wake.
I have the greatest respect for Rod's intelligence and amazing wit. My personal dealings with Rod date back to 1989 when I was appointed Environment caucus chair, with Ralph as Minister. Our strategy sessions exposed me to Rod's strategic mind - second to none. I also discovered to my surprise that behind Rod's sometimes gruff exterior was a bit of a teddy bear. The cosmos will undoubtedly shine brighter and more intensely now that Rod's energy has been embraced. So very sad to hear of his untimely death. He touched many lives and will be missed by all. My deepest sympathy to all family members.

Rod was a boyhood friend, we grew up together in Crestwood and often played in the ravine close to his home. I lost touch but did talk many years later, he was so proud to tell me all about his lovely wife and children..... I must say that 61 is to young to be leaving, I'm sure he didn't want to, but I'm equally sure that he'll be working hard at his new heavenly chief of staff position. It's just too sad for words.
Wanted you to know how shocked and how saddened I am that Rod had to leave this world far too soon. Charlene you will so miss Rod, I am so sorry. Haley you will so miss being the only one who could correct Rod and he'd love every minute of it.

To the Love Family - I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Rod's passing. I didn't personally know him well but he was a friend of my brother's and spoke at my brother's wake. He made that day just a little bit better for all of us. His stories were so humourous and wonderful. As Rob would say he was a 'good guy'. Our heartfelt condolences go to all of you.
