Ruby Egnew Obituary

Ruby Mignon Egnew Died suddenly in San Rafael on January 28th, 2008 at the age of 87. An eight year resident of Sonoma, she was born in Scotia, CA, January 9th, 1921 to Benard Leslie Bronson and Mabel Alice Harris Bronson. Predeceased by her brothers Lyman Sholes, Jr., Lloyd Bronson, and George (Bud) Bronson, and sister Grace Jenkin; she is survived by her children Bruce and Nancy (McMartin) Egnew, of Millersville, MD and Bradley and Vickie (Geist) Egnew of Sonoma. She was the loving grandmother of Daniel Egnew of Santa Rosa, Brianna (Chris) McHenry of Aliso Viejo, Kayla Egnew of Sonoma, David Egnew of Santa Rosa, Jennifer Lindeman of San Diego, Stephanie (Matthew) Policare of Tustin, and Leslie Egnew and fiancé Matthew Post of San Marcos and great grandsons Nicholas and Andrew Lindeman and Jacob Policare; sister-in-law of Rena Bronson of Fortuna; and Aunt Ruby to nine nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. After graduating from Fortuna High School, she moved to San Francisco where she met the love of her life, Glen Egnew, when both worked at Southern Pacific Railroad. They built their first house in San Anselmo in 1940, later moving to Terra Linda in 1970. Her beloved Glen died on July 15th, 1986 after 25 years as a real estate broker in Marin. A proud member of the Greatest Generation, she loved telling the stories of the Great Depression, World War II, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge on its opening day, taking the train from Sausalito to Fairfax, when 101 had a few stop lights instead of interchanges, and when the Northwestern Pacific RR stopped in San Rafael. A longtime employee of the San Francisco Theological Seminary, she was also active in PTA, Cub Scouts and other community groups. She was a volunteer at Kaiser Hospital for over 17 years. Her favorite time was that spent with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and handwork, loved history and world events, and worked on her computer, producing a volume of her life story, the gift of a great memory right to the end. But most of all, she loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was also an active member of the Marin Genealogical Society, leaving her family with complete genealogy of the short lines back into the 1700s and the longest line of 15 generations into the 1400s. Interment at Mountain Cemetery, Sonoma, California. Arrangements are under the directions of Duggan's Mission Chapel, Mission Cremation Service, 525 West Napa Street, Sonoma, CA 95476.

I was very sorry to learn of Ruby"s passsing. She was a first class lady in all respects. We are thankful that she was able to visit with us last summer, and that many of the family were present. We received a gracious note from her just a few months ago. Our hearts are with her family.

So sorry to read about your Mom's passing. Some thoughts of the "old" days came up. She had a full life and I am sure she was very proud of you. Hope you and all your family are doing well.
