Suzanne Wickham
Suzanne Wickham Suzanne, "Suzie" Wickham, whose warm and generous spirit touched so many hearts in the Marin community, especially in her hometown of Mill Valley, passed away on March 7, 2021. The daughter of Louise and Jack Allen, Suzie grew up on Ryan Avenue, attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Mill Valley Middle School, and Tamalpais High School, from which she graduated in 1979. It was love at first sight when she met Jim Wickham, her husband of 38 years, and little did she suspect then that he would become the mayor of Mill Valley in 2019, or that they would raise five children in the sheltering beauty of Mount Tamalpais. Where there were children, Suzie would be. Whether it was teaching dance to a generation of children at the Happy Feet Dance School, supporting young students at the Mount Tam School - or, later, at Edna McGuire - running the Snack Shack at Boyle Park, or grilling burgers at the annual carnival, Suzie was always a caring, playful, and radiant presence. She had a gift for creating a welcoming home and for making people feel at home, as her family and many friends will attest. Suzie never sought the limelight, yet she cast a special light of her own. She fought a quiet, valiant fight against her illness, participating in a cutting-edge cancer study at U.C.S.F., and choosing to believe in the strides, rather than the odds. She gave so much to everyone who crossed her path, and now she leaves this legacy: cherish family, celebrate friendships, and choose love and courage over fear. Suzie will be deeply missed by her husband, Jim; her five children, Sarah (Bevan Jones), Ashley (Jay Harry), Ryan (Kenya Curry), Scott (Ceren Turgut), and Lauren (available); her grandchildren, Sienna and Kaiden Jones, Kali Wickham and Sierra Harry; her sister, Doree Allen; her brother, John (Leslie) Allen; her Godmother, Mary Capurro; her nieces and nephews, Madison, Isabelle, Cory, Rhonda, Brian (Becky) and Paul; and her other dear family members, Stephanie Wickham-Witt, George Wickham, Anne Baxter, and Edith Lindstrom. A celebration of Suzanne's life will take place sometime in the summer when we can gather together again. Memorial gifts may be made to: UCSF Foundation, PO Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145; or online at: https://giving.ucsf.edu/honor-memorial. Please indicate the gift is in memory of Suzanne Wickham, to benefit breast cancer research under the direction of Dr. Michelle Melisko.

My memories of Suzie's sparkling energy and joy for life come from years volunteering at our children's swim meets in the 90's. Early mornings, long days, lots of food to prepare and serve hungry swimmers and families. Yet, she was always the person you could count on to organize whatever needed to be done, with enthusiasm.
I am devastated to discover that she succumbed to her valiant battle against cancer. I believed she could beat it, if anyone could. I hope and pray her efforts will lead to a breakthrough in this curing this cruel disease.

Suzi was a lovely person, taught my daughter Noel at Happy Feet. I would see Suzi at the Boyle Park Snack stand on the Minor League side. Each year I would give her a Mountain Play poster. I’d see her at the annual carnival grilling hamburgers. Jim, her devoted husband arranged the carnival as a fund raiser for KIDDO each year. We will miss Suzie’s smile & all the wonderful things she did for the community. Her five lovely children (Ashley/Sarah/Ryan/Scott & Lauren) are a credit to Suzie & Jim plus her lovely sister-in-law Stephanie Wickham-Witt. RIP Suzie

A bright light has gone out with the passing of Suzy. Never was a more positive cheery smile to be found than hers. We have so many wonderful memories of her surrounded by all of our soccer playing girls. Suzy, always the noble supporter of Jim their coach and a consummate and welcoming hostess to our families. She will forever remain one of the best examples in my mind of true mill valley community warmth and spirit. So many will miss you Suzy.

What sad news to hear today. I always talked with Suzie in the Edna front office when I popped in and I was wondering where she had gone. We knew Sarah & Caden from Donna’s across the way and I always asked her about them. My thoughts are with them as I know she was an awesome mom & grandma to them. Much love, Zetta (Jonas’ mom).
