Carl W. Berry

MOUNT GILEAD: Carl W. Berry, age 86, of Mount Gilead died Monday October 17, 2011 in the Woodside Village Care Center. He was born October 1, 1925 in Prospect to the late Fred N. and H. Matilda (Kline) Berry.

Carl served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Morrow County from Marion County in 1950 and had been employed as a saw operator at the Marion Power Shovel for 20 years and also at the Army Engineering Depot. Carl worked as a carpenter, enjoying the building and remodeling of houses as well as some farming through the years. Those who knew Carl described him as a great philosopher, he would share with anyone who would listen.

On May 14, 1951 in Marion, Carl married the former Eileen Kisor and she survives in Mount Gilead.

In addition to his wife; Carl is survived by his daughters, Carlene Smallwood of Marysville, Judy Bartley, and Jackie Berry both of Mt. Gilead; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; sister, Sarah Carpenter of Tulsa, OK; and few cousins, nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his son, Carl Lewis Berry in 1971; one brother, and one sister.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home Wednesday, October 19th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at funeral home in Cardington on Thursday, October 20 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Darryle Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery.
