David McDuffie Obituary

David Wayne McDuffie Sr.

PLANTATION, FL: Our beloved David Wayne McDuffie Sr., 56, fought to the end before God called him to eternal rest on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. He was surrounded by family and friends in Plantation, Florida.

He was born on November 27, 1958 in Marion, Ohio to the late Homer McDuffie Sr. and Mary Emma Upton-McDuffie. David is one of 13 children and was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gloria McDuffie and Nicole McDuffie; and brother, Ricky McDuffie.

David graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1977. After attending the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, he joined the United States Army in 1983 as an enlisted soldier. While in the military, David graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was later accepted into the Officer Candidates School in 1990 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry Branch. He served nine years in the military and received many awards (National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, two Army Good Conduct Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Air Assault Badge). In 1986, he met and married Chrisanne Cochran in Munich, Germany. Out of their union were two children; Aisia LaShay and David Wayne Jr. David was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legions. David loved his family and spared no expense in showing it. Nicknamed "Diamond D", he liked the finer things in life. He will be forever remembered sporting the "Black Lincoln Navigator" with "$ Signs" Spinning Wheel Rims.

David is survived by daughter, Aisia LaShay McDuffie, son, David Wayne McDuffie Jr.; and siblings, Minnie Range, Celia Thomas (Columbus, OH.), Cynthia Berry (Woodbridge, VA.), Homer McDuffie (Plantation, FL.), Tara Dyer, Rocky McDuffie, Lisa Cowans (Marshall) (Columbus, OH.), Mary McDuffie, and Mark McDuffie (Andrea); He leaves to cherish his memory to a host of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and loving friendships that were established over the years.

Friends may call at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Friday, July 10, 2015, from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM. Bishop Greg Draper will officiate the service with burial to follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Donations in David's name may be made to The Disabled American Veterans. The Marion County Veterans Council will provide military rites.
