James Freeman Obituary

James "Jim" Freeman

Marion - James "Jim" Freeman, 79 of Marion, passed away peacefully June 3, 2021. He was born October 19, 1941, in Lackey, Kentucky, to Virgil and Besse Freeman. Jim was a longtime resident of Marion. In 1971, he met the love of his life, Barbara Freeman, and in 1973, they wed and have been together for 50 years.

Jim and his late brother Bob Freeman owned and operated Freeman's Plumbing and Heating. In 1981, Jim and his wife Barb owned and operated Fairpark Family Restaurant until 1983, before moving to Florida. Upon moving back to Marion in 1988, he and his wife owned and operated Something Good Family Restaurant until 2016.

Jim was an avid golfer, a sport he loved with a passion. He also loved singing, whether at church, karaoke, or playing his guitar.

He loved working. He built numerous houses, remodeled houses, and was always working on something at the family restaurant. After many years of working, he loved nothing more than going home and relaxing with his wife Barb and his dog Coco.

Jim loved traveling and going on cruises, and he loved spending time with his family, especially on holidays.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Doug, Jon, Bob, Phil, Denny, Donnie, and Kenneth, as well as his sister Barb.

He leaves behind his wife Barbara Freeman; his son Timothy (Danielle) Freeman; his daughter Kim (Robert) Arnett; his grandchildren Kyle (Brittney) Trombly, Amber Barcia, Eric Arnett, Brittney Freeman, Daniel Weaver, Nykole Freeman, and Kimberly Freeman; his great-grandchildren Landon, Blayke, Palmer, Shawn, Sylas, Elley, Osiris, Ariana, Karlee, Emmitt, Zy'Nia and Luca; his sister Lorreta (Paul) Clark; his brother Paul (Mary) Freeman; sisters-in-law Leah (Rick) Parker and Gwen (Dennis) Gilliland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Boyd Funeral Home. Services will take place on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Nathan R. McBeth officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery.
