Katherine Nicholls Obituary
GALION: Katherine M. "Kay" Nicholls, 94, of Galion, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion.
Born June 9, 1918 in Akron, she was the daughter of the late Tony and Crishua (Sachte) Mavromatis. She was preceded in death on March 9, 2012 by her husband of 76 years, Arthur E. "Art" Nichols whom she married on April 9, 1936.
Kay graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron and attended Kent State University. She was a long-time member of First United Church of Christ where she belonged to the Art Nicholls Sunday school class and the church circle.
Kay was co-owner with her husband, Art, of Nicholls Furniture in Galion, Marion and Mansfield. She was the Matriarch of her family for many years and always gave good honest advice. It may not have been what you wanted to hear, but it always proved to be right.
Together with her husband, they grew their family by 101 members. Her surviving family includes one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Nicholls of Galion; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Chrissy Nussbaum of Mt. Vernon, Kathy and Gary Weithman of Galion, and Bonnie and Sam Calhoon of Columbus; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dr. Joseph Nussbaum; a grandson, Joseph Nussbaum, an infant grandson, Arthur Carl Weithman; an infant great-grandson, William McDavid; and one brother, Nick Mavromatis.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15 at First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, Galion with Rev. Katherine Beckett and Pastor Brad Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.

I worked at Magnolia for 5 years, and Kay was very dear to me. We often ate icecream together and discussed what was on t.v. I am sorry for your loss. I will miss her as well.
