Maurice Tobin Obituary

Maurice Joseph "Joe" Tobin III

Marion - Maurice Joseph Tobin, surrounded by his loving family, passed on July 13, 2021. He fought a long courageous battle with cancer supported by the love of family and friends who have faithfully been by his side. Joe was born on September 10, 1952. He is the son of the late Maurice J. Tobin II and Jean Leser Tobin who survives. Brothers and sisters include Margaret (Sol) Green of Lafayette, Indiana, Patricia (Tom) Arute of Dothan, Alabama, James (Yvonne) Tobin of Columbus, Michael (Gayle) Tobin of Paxinos, Pennsylvania, Jeannie (late Ronald) Soucy of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Thomas (Cathy) Tobin of Delaware. Joe attended St. Mary School and graduated from Marion Catholic High School in 1970 where he excelled in basketball, football, and track. He attended Bowling Green State University on a track scholarship graduating in 1974 with a BS in Business Administration. His career included working for Marion Community Action, Marion Contracting Corporation, the Marion H.A.N.D. program, and his own company, Tobin Home and Building Inspections. On June 11, 1977 Joe married the former Kathleen Hoover and together they proudly and successfully raised their three children David (Tiffani) Tobin of Lewis Center, Erick (Alison) Tobin of North Olmsted, and Amanda (Benjamin) Thiel of Powell. Seven grandchildren include Ava and Craig Tobin, Ethan and Asher Tobin, and Elijah, Tristan, and Caden Thiel. Joe always believed in the importance of the journey which meant yearly family vacations - educational along with a pool and an amusement park. Early vacations included memorable camping trips, but for the last 25 years cruises, condos, and bed and breakfasts replaced those camping trips. He and Kathy also enjoyed biking and hiking trips. Joe coached 4th, 5th, and 6th grades boys and girls basketball. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
