HAROLD SCHEID Obituary

HAROLD SCHEID Harold Allen Scheid, age 80, of Marshall, Missouri, died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Traditions of Columbus in Columbus, Indiana. Harold was born on September 27, 1943, in Blackwater, Missouri. He was the son of the late Albert Joseph Scheid and Vivian Nadine Dial Scheid. He married Bonnie Carver in 1968 and had two daughters, Donna Renae and Christine Marie. He married Jill Rhodes in 1988 and had one daughter, Amber Irene. He liked to tell people, in his typical brand of humor, "I married two 19-year-olds, 20 years apart!" In all seriousness, he was grateful for those marriages because they brought him the three loves of his life, his daughters. He graduated from Nelson High School in 1961 and entered the Air Force. He was stationed in Tucson, Arizona, working on the Titan II Missile. After his military service, he worked for McDonnell Douglas in St. Charles, Missouri. He then began his lifelong career at JCPenney. He started as the manager of the automotive department in St. Louis, Missouri, and continued his career working his way up to store manager. He enjoyed serving as store manager for multiple JCPenney locations, including stores in Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Indiana. He closed out his career in Plymouth, Indiana, and celebrated his retirement with his cherished coworkers from that store. After retirement, he relocated back to his hometown of Marshall, Missouri, and appreciated being close to his siblings and playing golf at Indian Foothills Golf Course. He played countless hours of golf with his league buddies and always had stories to share of his rounds there. A common golfing joke he would make was that "real men" hit from the back tees and never the white tees, no matter their age! It took decades of dedicated play, but on March 30, 2020, he finally got his first and only hole-in-one. Once his health began declining, he relocated to Columbus, Indiana, where he enjoyed the last year of his life surrounded by "young pretty ladies" who took care of him and laughed at his jokes. His youngest grandkids also loved having their Papa Scheid close by and enjoyed Sunday afternoon strolls around the facility and being silly together. He was surrounded with love and comfort by his three daughters during his final days and passed peacefully while watching the Golf Channel. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Schlotzhauer (Billy), Christine Parker (Todd), and Amber Porter (Bill); his stepson, Blake Scheid; his siblings, Alma Anson, Edwin Scheid (Beth), and Susan DePriest; his former wife Jill Ryan; his grandchildren, Nicholas Paubel, Erin Schlotzhauer, Madison Howell, Lena Porter, and Levi Porter; his great grandchildren, Aaron Paubel and Hailey Paubel; his nieces and nephews, Monty, Chris, Greg, Darrin, Teresa, and Kahla; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother A.J.; his brother Sherman Scheid; his brother-in-law Butch Anson; his former wife Bonnie Scheid; his great grandson Gabriel Paubel; and his nephew Ken Scheid. Memorial graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Heath Creek Cemetery in rural Nelson, Missouri. Potluck luncheon will be in the church hall immediately following the services. The family encourages golf attire be worn in honor of Harold's favorite pastime. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com. Memorial contributions may be made in person or online at www.gofundme.com/f/harold-scheid and will be used to place a bench in Harold's memory at Indian Foothills Golf Course.
