Born May 1, 1940, in Malta Bend, MO, he was the son of the late Stephen Harvey Rimmer and Mary Elizabeth Gauldin Rimmer. Steve graduated from Malta Bend High School and then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. On September 28, 1968, he married Linda Faye Kochs who survives of the home. Steve had a career of over 50 years as a journeyman lineman, which took him all across the United States, and a member of I.B.E.W. Local 53 in Kansas City. He had many, and varied interests throughout his life. Many will remember him for his love of racing, restoring antique cars, and being a wealth of information when it came to the mechanics of a vehicle. Steve was an integral part of Marshall Drag Racing Team, donating time and money and helping mentor high school students who enjoyed the sport. He held the world record in Can Am Racing for six seasons and the championship for competition eliminator rail dragster for three seasons, as well as earning the gold medal at the International Six Day Trial. As though the racing wasn't challenging, and fast enough, he went on to earn his twin engine pilot's license. Steve loved music and played lead guitar in bands through the years, many times with his 1956 Les Paul Gold Top guitar, in which there were only a little over 100 made. Kyks, Bittersweet, Anointed and Go Forth were a few of the bands he played in. Anointed and Go Forth were gospel bands where Steve was able to use his talents for the Lord and minister through music. Steve was a member of Southside Assembly of God Church where he played in the church band.
In addition to his wife of over 56 years, Linda; he is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Gale Hunter of Marshall; one son, Stephen B. "Buddy" Rimmer Jr. (Val) of Marshall; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, David C. Rimmer (Marilyn) of Marshall; an aunt, Evelyn Lynch of Blue Springs; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, David Pattrick Rimmer and Kenneth Howard "Bear" Rimmer.
