John Clanton Obituary

John David Clanton, 80, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.

John was born May 20, 1931, son of the late Perle and Valerine (O'Conner) Clanton in Shell Lake. He was united in marriage to Nancy Lou Stariha on Aug. 23, 1952.

John was a 1953 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from May of 1954 to May of 1956. Following his tour of duty, John and Nancy moved to Minneapolis where he started his career with Shell Oil. They then moved to Marshfield where he was employed with Felker Brothers. He later served as the Economic Development Director of Greater Marshfield. John then started his own business after they moved to Sun Prairie, an Economic Development Consulting Company which he owned until his retirement in 1996.

He loved fishing on Buskey Bay, enjoyed golfing, reading, watching CNN. He also enjoyed a good martini, cracking jokes and spending time with his family and dog Reese. He was a sports fan and loved watching the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.

John is lovingly survived by his family — a son, Paul Clanton of Marshfield and his children, Max and Laura Clanton; a daughter, Jane Clanton (Mike Frandson) of St. Louis, Mo., and their children Kenian (Alex) Jenne, Whitney Kelly and Nicholas Tollkuhn; a daughter, Jody (Dean) Dix of Appleton and their children, Nicole, Courtney and Jamie Dix (Tim VerVoort); a daughter, Julie (Doug) Jarchow of Appleton and their son, Kyle Jarchow.

Grandpa John was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Braydon, Ava, Landon, Liam and Olivia. Other family includes a sister, Sally Clanton and her husband Dave Stazak of Sunset Lake; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ed (Linda) Brunner of Iron River and Dick (Nancy) Stariha, of Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.

John was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; an infant son, John; and a sister, Carolyn Freylack.

The funeral service for John will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Mike L. Huff officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.

John's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund is being established in John's name.

Memories and Condolences
for John Clanton

Not sure what to say?

To all the Clanton's, the deepest sympathy> Always seemed like the Radtkes and Clantons were an extended family. We can still prize the memories of our trips to Door County and the many other social "engagements" that we shared. I know that you all have the fondest memories of your father, John. I had missed his almost weekly bits of humor in recent months.

I have fond memories of our parents getting together. There was always lots of laughter and a few cocktails. Your dad always had a joke to share when ever he was around. In recent years those jokes were passed around online. John will be missed. My thoughts are with the entire Clanton family.
