March 6, 1959 - October 8, 2025
Catherine Louise Crawley, 66, of Roanoke, Va., devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and church community.
Born in Norfolk, Va., on March 6, 1959, to Joseph Thomas "Tom" Crawley Jr. and Martha Louise Wilkins Crawley, Cathy adored her two younger brothers, Tommy and Jimmy. In 1965, the family established its
roots in Martinsville, Va., where Cathy attended Carlisle School.
Cathy followed in her father's footsteps receiving a degree from Wake Forest University in 1981. While at Wake Forest, Cathy majored in Economics and was fortunate to spend time with both her brothers, also
Wake Forest graduates.
After college, Cathy moved to Spokane, Washington to pursue an actuarial career. It was there where she had her only child, Drew, before relocating to Kansas City, Kansas. Cathy later lived in Roanoke, Virginia, where she most recently worked at Davenport & Company.
Cathy cared deeply for all those close to her - her family, her friends, and her community. Cathy's warm smile and infectious laugh lit up every room she entered. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she
touched, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Those who did surely recall her love for Wake Forest sports, good Southern cooking, and a glass of red wine.
Cathy is survived by her son, Joseph Drewry "Drew" Thies (Elizabeth Woods); her father; her brothers, Tom Crawley (Hui) and Jim Crawley (Kelly); and many adored aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and
grand-nieces and nephews. Cathy was preceded in death by her mother.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Cathy's doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Carilion Clinic Cardiology.
A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, Va.

I met Cathy when her family moved to Martinsville. We were both 6 years old. We quickly became friends and were pretty much inseparable as we grew up. She was like part of my family, going to the sailing club with us and on family trips to the beach. She was so caring and kind and funny. I will deeply miss her and cherish her friendship forever. I love you Cathy.

Brad and I are deeply saddened by the news. Cathy was a great friend we got to know in Spokane, WA where we worked together at Telect. She was funny, considerate, smart - just a lovely person. We shared so many fun times - most involving wonderful food and good wines! So glad we got to see her 5 yrs ago, but now wishing for more, of course. Hugs to Drew and her family & local friends. I was terribly saddened to hear of Cathy´s passing. We became friends when I moved to Raleigh Court in 2019. We met as she was walking George and we clicked right away. We often walked our dogs and met up for dinner or wine. We weren´t able to see each other as much in recent years, due to her work schedule and helping with her parents. But we still chatted and had recently talked of having dinner and catching up. My heartfelt condolences to friends and family as you mourn her loss. She was truly a gem.

I graduated from Wake Forest with Cathy, and we both lived in Winston-Salem a few years afterward. Reminiscing about our "youth" is making me smile. Sending comfort & peace to the Crawley family.

Cathy was a very special person and great friend. We worked together at Davenport and she will be greatly missed. Our office will not be the same, as there will be a great void without her.
