Johnny Martin Obituary

Mr. Johnny Ray Martin, age 66, of Yucca Valley, Calif., passed away in his home on Friday, August 6, 2021.
He was born in Bassett, Virginia, on December 10, 1954, to the late Mae H. Martin and Akers G. Martin.
Surviving are two sisters, Janice Sawyers of Collinsville, Va. and Jo Anne Martin of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, James Martin of Collinsville, Va., and Jerry Martin of Debary, Fla.; three nieces, Jennifer Gilbert, Kerri Clark, Emily Anderson; five nephews, Randy Martin, Sammy Martin, Kevin Martin, Matt Sawyers, Jason Martin.
Johnny graduated from Bassett High School in 1973 and went on to graduate from James Madison University. He worked for McGuire Furniture as a Finishing Supervisor in San Francisco, Calif. until his retirement. He then moved to Pioneertown, Calif., and subsequently to Yucca Valley. Following his passion for music, he joined the Shadow Mountain Band where he played the autoharp and was a soloist singer. He was known for his compassion for his fellow man and most of all his love for his dogs. Johnny's passing will leave an empty space in the lives of many on both the east and west coasts.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local dog rescue.
