Kerney McKinley Carr

Kerney McKinley Carr of Bassett, Va., died at the age of 82, on November 19, 2021, surrounded by his daughters. He was born on January 24, 1939, in Mercer County, W.Va. He was the son of the late Gerald M. Carr and Ollie Walker Carr of Hinton, W.Va. He was the husband of the late Imogene Meadows Carr for 60 years. They had four beautiful girls together, Janet Hancock (Eddie), Carolyn Reeves, Teresa Mitchell (Rodger), and Angela Sutton (Jimmy). He was also the proud Papa of nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Kerney was preceded in death by his siblings, Georgia Gill, Walter Carr, Ross Carr, and Darrell Carr. He is survived by his siblings, Louise Crook, Garland Carr, Brookie Lemons, Roger Carr (Mary), and Ollie Tramal (Tom). He had numerous nieces and nephews.

Kerney retired from Stanley Furniture after working there for 25 years. He received a watch that he proudly wore every day.

He had a kind spirit and was easy going. He was full of life and loved playing his mandolin. He spent most of his time outdoors hunting, fishing, raising chickens, pigs, and cows. He enjoyed planting gardens and feeding the birds. You could find him watching the Yankees games and Clint Eastwood's Westerns on TV. He was an active member of Fairway Baptist Church. He is now in his heavenly home and is reunited with his loved ones.He will be truly missed by many that knew and loved him.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, from 12 until 5 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy., Bassett, Va.

A funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Fairway Baptist Church, 9427 Fairystone Park Hwy., Bassett, Va. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Interment will follow in the County Line Church of God of Prophecy Patrick Springs, Va.
