Linnie Pace Obituary

Linnie Pace

"When an older person dies, a library burns to the ground." - African proverb. On September 23, 2025, the area lost a wealth of knowledge with the death of Linnie Pace. Born in 1930, to Howard Turner and Della Culler Turner, she grew up on a crop and dairy farm. The only daughter with five brothers, of necessity she developed extraordinary talents and an unparalleled work ethic. Her many skills included cooking, all sorts of needlework, gardening, and household management.

In 1949, she married Juel Daniel Quesinberry who died in 1966. They had two daughters, Sandra Quesinberry Williamson (Joe) and Elizabeth Quesinberry Hiatt (Jerry) whom she continued to rear on her own while widowed. In 1972, she was married to George Dan Pace for 46 years, prior to his death in 2018.

Linnie was the oldest surviving member of Rich Acres Christian Church where she stayed active until her health declined. She will be remembered for opening her home to provide meals and hospitality for her church and community, and for distributing hundreds of her renowned pound cakes, yeast rolls, and much food to families needing care during stressful circumstances.

Linnie was preceded in death by her parents; two spouses; and four brothers. She is survived by one brother, Archie Turner (Edith); her two daughters; a stepson, Dan Pace, Jr. (Martha); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her family wishes to commend and thank King's Grant Retirement Community staff and employees and Mountain Valley Hospice for her care.

A memorial service officiated by Creighton Beatty will take place at 11 a.m., at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel on Saturday, November 8, 2025, with receiving of friends from 10 to 11 a.m., at Norris Funeral Services. She will lovingly be laid to rest in her family cemetery in Carroll County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rich Acres Christian Church Building Fund.

Yesterday

Linnie was such a special lady, like family to us. Her reputation for wonderful southern cooking was known throughout the region, as was her joy in her girls, shopping for antiques, and giving comfort to others through her food, a true ministry. She was a beauty, and took pride in her appearance and the lovely home she shared with Dan. Linnie was a force of nature that we enjoyed being around. She adopted Tim as her son, calling him `her boy´, and she was loved by all the Myers´ family. We´re sure her girls have sweet memories, just as we do, of times spent listening to her talk of her life story and the history of this area - she was a fount of interesting information. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you, Sandra, Liz, and families, on Saturday and into the days ahead. Love you all, Tim and Kim Myers
