In Loving Memory of Margaret Clark Wilson
Margaret (Ruth) Clark Wilson, also known as Maggie and Peggy, was a dedicated preservationist, photographer, and author. She left this world on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of passion, creativity, and a profound love for life.
Maggie found purpose in her work on the restoration of historical treasures such as Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's estate) and Montpelier (James Madison's estate). Her meticulous efforts contributed to the preservation of our nation's rich history, and her commitment to these projects reflected her deep appreciation for the beauty of the past.
Beyond her preservation endeavors, Maggie was a talented photographer, capturing the world through her lens with a unique and artistic vision. Her photographs not only documented moments in time but also reflected her love for nature, which she cherished during long walks outside. Her keen eye for detail and beauty was evident in every frame.
Maggie's literary contributions were marked by the co-authorship of the book "Island of Promise," written under the pseudonym Madeleine Carr alongside her friend Amanda Cooke. This collaboration showcased Maggie's versatility and her ability to weave compelling stories.
A social spirit, Maggie enjoyed the company of friends, often gathering over glasses of wine to share laughter and create lasting memories. Simultaneously, she found solace in the simple pleasures of solitude, relishing quiet moments with a good book in hand.
Maggie's youthful spirit, love for animals, and endless humor endeared her to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She had a remarkable ability to navigate life with a sense of individuality, always listening to her own counsel.
Maggie is survived by her brother, Albert Wills Clark Jr., and nephew, Seth Clark. She was the daughter of Albert Wills Clark Sr. and Edith Galilee Smith.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make donations to the Ivy Creek Foundation in Charlottesville, Va.
