Richard Compton Obituary

Richard Compton

It is with great sorrow, the Compton family announces the passing of Richard Dean Compton, 70, of Ridgeway, Virginia on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Richard was a loving husband, father, papa, brother and friend to those who knew him. He was a successful self made businessman. He excelled in every challenge that was presented to him in life. He started out in the convenience store business managing Hop-In. As his talents were shown, he moved on to become the Vice President of Operations for Speedway Centers. In 2003, Richard and his wife took on a new venture and became owners of the Village Market in Bassett, Va. He took his passion and turned it into a successful business dedicated to serving customers within the community. Richard worked extremely hard to value the employees that worked for him.

In his early years, Richard enjoyed playing golf, riding motorcycles with his love, spending time at the lake and swimming in the pool with his family. In his later years, as his health and mobility restricted him, he found joy in spending time with his family at home and watching the action on television. As an avid sports fan, his weekends were full of various sports games. Every game day, he was known for wearing an Alabama Crimson Tide shirt to represent his favorite team. Richard battled through numerous obstacles to be present as long as he could to spend time with his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Lois Compton; his daughter, Krystle Compton; sister, Mary Katherine Compton; and many beloved pets. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri; son, Chris(Amanda) Compton of Bassett, Va. and daughter, Candice Compton of Yorktown, Va.; his beloved grandchildren, Jackson, Justice and Jaylen; his brother, David (Cindy) Compton; niece, Lauren (Robert) Jones and nephew, John Michael (Kristie) Compton.

Roll Tide!!!

Visitation will be held at Bassett Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service where family and friends are welcome will be at Mountain View Cemetery on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. Chad Hall will serve as the officiant. His family is requesting to honor him by wearing your favorite Sports, Racing, or TV Show apparel to the visitation and/or service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charity.

I have many fond childhood memories of visiting uncle Rick & aunt Terri at their home overlooking the speedway. The Compton house was always a light & fun place to be. Rick was always cooking in the kitchen or standing over the grill. As a kid what could be better than the pool table downstairs covered in food & family gathering. Thanks uncle Rick for loving my aunt Terri.

Candy, Chris, Amanda, and Family,
I was so saddened to hear about your tremendous loss. I always remember your dad smiling every time I saw him! He was so proud of you all and he loved those sweet grand babies more than anything in the world. (& would do anything for you all or them. My prayer is that your memories would bring you comfort, peace, and joy. Grief is tricky, but where there is great grief; there was great love!

Thinking of you all and remembering you in my prayers.

Fondly,
Jessica “Young” Nigh
