Robert Leonard Carter, 79, of Thomasville, N.C. (formerly of Martinsville) died on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Lexington Health Care. He was born in Henry County on August 23, 1942 to the late Lem Carter and the late Ruth Snow Willis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol Dean Carter, daughter, Terri Carter and a sister, Caroline Gillette.
He graduated Fieldale High School in 1960 and had worked for Winn Dixie, Food Lion and Harris Teeter as a meat cutter until retirement at age 63. He loved hunting, fishing, his dogs and family gatherings.
He is survived by his son, James Carter and wife, Ana; grandson, Jeff Carpenter; granddaughter, Jessica Chavez; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Nester and husband, Jim, Marilyn Hall and husband, John.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 1 until 2 p.m. in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where the funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David King officiating. Burial will follow in the County Line Church of God of Prophecy cemetery.
Due to the governor's requirements for Covid-19, a face covering is recommended and social distancing is to be observed.
