Carol Lamothe Obituary

Carol Ann (Patrell) Lamothe died early Friday October 1, 2021 at home after a brief illness. She died two days before her 93rd birthday.
Born October 4, 1928 to the late Oliver L. Patrell, Jr. and the late Mary (Doyle) Patrell, Carol was raised in Springfield and attended Springfield schools. She graduated from the former Classical High School in 1946, and received a Bachelor’s degree from Bates College in Lewiston Maine in 1950. She married the late Richard Lamothe in 1955 a marriage which lasted more than six decades until his death in 2017.
She worked for several years as a social worker at the YWCA in West Hartford, CT, and at the Girls Club in Springfield. She then became a bookkeeper for A&W Root Beer, and years later, for Holy Cross Church in Springfield. She was also a communicant of Holy Cross.
She and Richard were quite active in outdoor activities, belonging to both the Springfield Ski Club in Blandford, MA and the Springfield Yacht and Canoe Club in Springfield. She was also a bus monitor for the Springfield schools and volunteered in several activities in her daughter Kathy’s Girl Scout troops. Later in life, she became involved in a senior citizens’ group at Holy Cross as well as the Catholic Women’s Club in Springfield.
Besides her husband and parents, Carol is also predeceased by her brothers Oliver Patrell, III, of Old Lyme, CT and Donald Patrell, of New York, NY, and her sister, Denise Shea, of Springfield, who was a Nurse in a hospital in Springfield.
Carol is survived by her son, William Lamothe, of Natick MA; her daughter Mary Lamothe and son-in-law Nathan Tinker, both of Trumbull, CT; and daughter Kathy, of Springfield; three grandchildren: Jonathan, Alex, and Elizabeth, all of Trumbull. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at noon Saturday, October 9 at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd, Springfield. Burial will be held privately at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Agawam. Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation is in charge of these arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to the Friends of the Springfield City Library Foundation, 220 State Street, Springfield MA 01103, or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104. To leave an online condolence, visit www.forastiere.com.
