Jane Dumas Obituary

Jane E. Dumas
1943 - 2023
West Springfield
The eyes of an angel and a heart ten sizes too big, Jane E Dumas, RN spread love to all she knew and was loved by more than she could count. As a registered nurse she helped people at the beginning and end of their lives. In nursing homes, she helped patients peacefully draw their last breaths. In patients' homes, she provided specialized nursing care to seriously ill infants and comfort counseling to infants' families. Her "babies" grew to become healthy adults and stayed present in Jane's life to the end. In fact, love for Jane grew exponentially, affecting parents and families throughout the years.
Barely one month after her milestone happy birthday party, Jane E Dumas (Rosati), 80, died January 2, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, after a long illness and surrounded by her loving family. Jane had many names: Mother, Grandmother, Mimi, Auntie, and Sister. In these roles she touched many people's lives. Jane leaves two beloved daughters: Stephanie Zick and spouse Vinnie, and Christine Maiolo and spouse John. Beloved grandchildren include Ryan Zick and spouse Lindsey, Kyle Maiolo, and Julia Maiolo. She also leaves her beloved sister Faith Sullivan, nephews Tim Sullivan and Dan Sullivan, and niece Jeanne Roedel. She leaves Angel Valdes, who was like a son to Jane and brought many moments of joy to her throughout her life. And finally, she leaves her lovable and loving dog, Lily. Funeral arrangements are private at the discretion of the family. Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation in Agawam, MA oversees all arrangements.
Jane was born on December 9, 1943, to parents Rodney C Rosati and Adeline E Rosati (McGown) of Springfield, MA. She was predeceased by her sister Anne in 1968 and her nephew Tony Sullivan in 2002. Jane grew up in West Springfield, graduating from West Springfield High School and STCC School of Nursing, AS, RN. She lived in West Springfield and worked as a nurse most of her adult life.
Jane left many loving memories behind. Sister Faith remembers the depth of love Jane had for her, and especially the loving support and care for Faith's son Tony, during his dying process. Daughter Stephanie especially remembers Jane's midlife serious hospitalization in which Stephanie stepped up to become like a mother to her own mother. As well as all the loving, funny times they shared: shopping, dinners, and silly times with the grandkids, daughter Christine particularly remembers and was blessed to welcome Jane into her home and to lovingly care for her mother the last months of her life. Christine feels truly blessed to be the one holding Jane's hand as she drew her last breath. Both daughters loved Jane unconditionally and she loved them with a mother's love that knew no bounds. Finally, grandson Ryan particularly remembers all the dinners Jane, never known for her culinary skills, prepared for him, likely nachos and shredded cheese or cream cheese on crackers.
Donations may be made to either of Jane's favorite charities: Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104 or St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
