Michael George Romell peacefully passed away on July 17, 2021 surrounded by his beloved wife Artemis of 67 years and his loving family. He resided with his wife in Heritage Village, Southbury CT for the last 5 years and his home before 2016 was in Longmeadow and Amherst Mass. Michael was born in Ossining NY to George and Konstantina Romell on March 17, 1929. He is pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Peter and his sisters Helen and Venetia. His career in the life insurance and investment business began in 1951 with Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. as a life underwriter. In 1959, he was Agency Supervisor for N.E. Mutual, followed by his role as General Agent for Berkshire Life Insurance Co. in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1978, he started his private practice in Longmeadow and Amherst, Massachusetts and retired in 2016. He earned many financial degrees and was a chartered life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He was an active member of the YMCA in Springfield, Mass. He served on the Boards of the Cathedral of St. George and the St Luke Greek Orthodox Churches and he was one of the founders of St. Luke in East Longmeadow, Mass. Michael was a retired Reserve Officer serving in medical services as an Army Captain. He was the NY Giants football team’s #1 Fan and an avid golfer, tennis player, racquetball player and a downhill skier enjoying many years on the Vermont ski slopes. He leaves behind his wife Artemis Tatamanis Romell, 4 adult children and spouses, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was the love he had for his family.
Calling hours will be Wednesday July 21, 2021 at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N., Southbury from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd. Danbury on Thursday July 22, 2021 at 9:00 A.M. Burial will be immediately following at The Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to: The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Danbury CT, St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, East Longmeadow MA, or Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, Middlebury CT.
