David W. Clapp, 81, of Water Valley, passed away Feb. 29, 2024, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1942, in Water Valley to the late Willie "Doc" Clapp and Arvetta Owen Clapp.
David attended Northside Baptist Church in Mayfield and was a United States Army Veteran. He was a lifelong contractor and co-owner of the C&W Lumber. David was also a member of the American Legion Post 26 and a Sons of Confederate Veterans Tilghman Beauregard Camp 1460.
He is survived by his children, Katrina (Todd) Carr of Water Valley, Tanya (Michael) Orr of Water Valley, and Ashley (Jamie) Darnell of Mayfield; and eight grandchildren, Jarod (Angie) Carr of Union City, Tennessee, Jordon Carr of Water Valley, Joseph (Kara) Carr of Lexington, Devon (CJ) Orr of Mayfield, Camryn Orr of Water Valley, Claire Darnell of Mayfield, Max Darnell of Mayfield, and Jack Darnell of Mayfield; two great grandchildren, Peyton Edwards of Memphis, Tennessee, and Addison Carr of Union City, Tennessee, and a brother, Joe (Jeanette) Clapp of Water Valley.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Clapp; two brothers, Billy and Patrick Clapp; and a sister, Bonnie Guthrie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Rozzell Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon Wednesday until the hour of service.
