MAYFIELD - John Phillip Smith, 76, of Mayfield, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Dec. 3, 2025, at his residence.
He was retired from Smith's Supermarkets, where he was employed until they sold the stores in 2003. He then began Smith's Produce and Nursery for a few years, and finally, along with his sister, Mary Ann, developed The Meadows at Smith's Lane. He was an avid golfer and was a fan of the Mayfield Cardinals, UK Wildcats, and the Tennessee Titans.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pamela Mills Smith; a daughter, Allison Smith of Paducah; Chris (Natalie) Smith of Spring Hill, Tennessee; one sister, Mary Ann Ellison of Mayfield; five grandchildren, Rylee Grace McGullion, Regan Addison McGullion, Cole Michael Smith, Cade Phillip Smith, and Stella Lee Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hugh and Grace Nell Denham Smith.
Funeral services for John Phillip Smith will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield. Rev. Adam Rush will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Chris Smith, Robert Ellison, Shaun Blythe, Jimmy Mosley, Jesse Perry, and Chris Graham.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. David Zetter, Richard Chapman, John Kennedy, John Poole, Johnny Jackson, Steve Halsell, and Donnie Moore.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at the funeral home.
