Abigail Monks Obituary

Abigail Joy Monks, 23, passed away in her sleep and was immediately in the arms of her Heavenly Father on December 29, 2020. On May 2, 1997, she became the precious daughter of William and Bonnie Monks, of New Tripoli, PA. Abigail was soon to be the fiancé of Jacob Barrows who loved and adored her. Her beauty lit up the room. She lived out her middle name, Joy, with an infectious giggle that is unforgettable.

She graduated from The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School in 2015. She attended Northampton Community College receiving an Associate Degree in Graphic Arts.

Her love of sports was evident from her youth. She played soccer and softball, but her passion was volleyball. She was a member of the 2015 NCC volleyball team that placed 7th in the nation. She blessed many athletes as Head Coach of Push The Rock Volleyball Team.

She loved God's creations from ladybugs to cats, dogs and horses. One of her favorite jobs was pet sitting.

Her passion for her Lord and Savior was evident to all. Her love for Jacob, the beach, the sun, and photography drew her to San Diego where she was living her California dream!

She shined brightly for Jesus as part of the worship teams at Kingdom Life Family Center and Church Tsidkenu in San Diego where she ministered to the downtown homeless community.

Abigail will be forever missed by her brother, Zechariah, sister-in-law, Lizzy, her grandparents Shirley Horning, Angie and Nick Felegy, Ken Monks and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services: Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, February 20 with a Celebration of Life service to follow at Kingdom Life Family Center, 4333 Lime Kiln Road, Orefield. Arrangements by Keller Funeral Home, Inc. Fogelsville. Online condolences may be offered at www.KellerFuneralHomes.com.

Abby stayed with me when she first moved to San Diego, and she was a delight to have at home! I was taken with her sweetness, humility, and her love for her family. She was so easy to be with- not needy or endlessly chatty.

Often she would come home in the evening and join me in watching TV. I think I was working my way through Fire Fly for the third time.

I once made her watch a VBS video and do the dances with me. She had no idea what movements to do, but she went along with it, and we laughed the whole time.

The relationship with her mom was very special. When she wasn’t sure what to do, she’d say, “I’m going to call my mom.” I love that Bonnie prayed with her every time, always affirming her purpose and her dependence on Jesus.

Her short life is an inspiration to me, and I’m grateful to have met and spent time with her. I’m praying for the family's peace and comfort in Jesus.

I met Abby when we both attended a bb coach event in Indianapolis in the summer of 2019. One of the first conversations we had was fun, light and full of sarcastic banter. (We both were surprised at how much our sarcastic personalities matched) It was basically friends at first sight! We were inseparable the rest of the weekend and we kept in touch by working out on zoom, even though we usually talked longer than we worked out

She had such an amazing heart of God and I feel so blessed to call her my friend!

Abby, I miss and love you so much!! I know when I get to heaven, you and Jimmy will be fighting to get the first hug. #seeyouinheavenfriend

Abby was on my daughter’s U-10 NYAA soccer team. She was a superbly talented athlete, but what Kelly remembers best is her kindness and encouragement to her teammates, many of whom struggled a bit on the playing field. She was a beautiful light. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Abby was an amazing person. I was blessed with her presence many occasions and got to know her well. We would often sit by each other in Bible study, she knew I was dieting for my competition and would take my cake from me. She also planned to get healthy for the New Year and started working out. I would’ve loved to help her train & with her fitness, she was taken too soon. I know she would be proud that I went further with it. She had a sarcastic sense of humor, sometimes you would go “wait what?” and wonder if she was serious but then realize she wasn’t by the look in her eyes. She was super bright and also had a childlike spirit. She definitely was adventurous and full of intellectual curiosity. She will be missed so much but at least we know she is with Jesus now. I’m so thankful she came to California and it touched me how loved she was by our church family.

I was blessed to have known Abby from a sweet little girl to a young beautiful woman. Her faith was remarkable and unwavering throughout her entire life. She was so full of life and love for all people especially those less fortunate. With all her earthly talents she always discovered unique ways to help. Whenever I picture her earthly being, I see the most beautiful smile with an infectious laugh. In fact I don’t remember her without a smile. I can’t imagine how beautiful your smile is now! You will be missed greatly by so many. Till we meet again sweet girl!
