I knew his railroad photography and the history it told long before I knew the man. I was humbled to meet him in later years and get to know him. What I found was that Dave was an even better person than a photographer and there was not a better railroad photographer. Always willing to share his pictures and tell his stories. He taught me so much. Answered so many questions. He was a gift to us all as was his body of work. I will greatly miss his presence along the tracks. God Bless you Dave and thank you.

When I was just starting to photograph trains, I would hear the name "Augsburger" mentioned very often by railfans as though they were referring to a superstar athlete. His slide shows were legendary, as he always managed to find the perfect place to take his photos. We all knew his car and out would pop Dave with two cameras. As I got to know him better in more recent years, I was struck not only by the quality and depth of his photography, but just how nice a person he was, and how good he made you feel when you were with him. He always had a cheery attitude and could tell interesting stories all day long. He was very generous with the use of his photography, and loved to see his work in print. I will miss our lengthy "bull" sessions -- especially when we would somehow end up at the Coopersburg Diner. Rest in Peace, Dave.

Rest in peace my friend. You were a good man Dave, may God open his doors for you to come home now. We had allot of good laughs at the old Baldwin House, those memories I won't forget.

I have known Dave for over 50 years. In all of them he has been nothing but a first class guy.
Dave has caught the westbound, and we will be bringing the markers behind him.
God Speed ole friend.

I did not know mr augsburger, but when I saw the name I immediately recognized it. So many wonderful photographs of railroad related subjects were created by him and published in many books. I hope the originals are donated so all can enjoy them forever. I extend my condolences to his family at this time.
