Father David counseled myself and my husband prior to our marriage as well as being very supportive of me prior to my leaving home for independent living and eventually college. I am very grateful to Father David as both a spiritual advisor and a compassionate and wise human being. My husband and I will ever forget him and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and those that were so fortunate as to encounter him in their life path.

My first meeting with Fr David was in the summer of 1962, Stamford CT. I was paying off my tuition expenses at St Basil's College by painting walls, ceilings, and he dropped by quite by chance, interested in our labors but caring enough to counsel easing up: "This is not a sweat shop," he said. He maintained a store of those quips and maxims.
The following year I was in the same seminary in Washington DC as he, me in first-year theology, he in his final year before ordination. He was a good "elder," a good mentor. When, in my third year there, I was in the throes of doubts about continuing in the program toward ordination, he visited to provide major support as I grew anxious about making decisions that would be super disappointments to family and friends.
After years of my failure to maintain regular contact, he always welcomed renewals of friendship, never revealed the least hint of displeasure about my carelessness, regardless of how long it had been since last I was in touch. Though we ended up no longer sharing the same theological or political ideas, yet he was always gracious, patient, and very interested.
Will always remember him with affection and great respect.

Father David Clooney . . . he was one of "the good guys" . . . in many ways he was "the last of the mohicans" in that . . . i knew him . . .traveled with him . . . imbibed much of his knowledge and spiritual wisdom . . . and i can assure him that "the faith" carries on just in different soil . . . i have long kept Fr. David in my prayers and now will continue to keep his soul in my prayers as i ask in prayer that he remember me in his in the Kingdom with the saints in the memory of Christ who is eternal . . .

Fr. David was my cousin. He had an outrageous sense of humor although he rarely let it escape. He was kind, generous and one of the most dedicated people I know. I can't go through a day without thinking about one of his one line statements. I will miss him as I am sure his entire community will.

Fr. David and I have been friends since 1967 and in all his and my travels over the years we managed to maintain a fairly close relationship, which, in no small part, was due to his care, concern and loyalty. To say his passing leaves a large void in my life is an understatement. Even in the past 3+ years, when contact and communications have been challenging, given his illness and current circumstances, his warmth, humor and genuine interest always in others shone through his serious adversities. Beloved by his parishioners, students and colleagues, who usually were quick to discern his heart of gold beneath an often austere and formal exterior, he will live, I'm sure, in their memory for many years. His memory will fondly be with me until the end of my life, for sure. This validates the oft' repeated trop during the coming funeral services for him in the Eastern Church: "Let his memory be Eternal-Vichnaya Pamyat!" So, With the Saints, Oh Christ, Grant him rest!

I taught with Fr. David at St. Peter's HS, New Brunswick , NJ. He was very intelligent and very witty. We remained friends and I visited him at his parish in Northhampton Pa. Although we lost touch when he went to the care home, I remember him with fondness.
