Edward A. Emery
Edward A. Emery, 75, of Allentown, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the inpatient unit of the Lehigh Valley Hospice in Allentown. He was the husband of Ruth S. (Vandegrift) Emery and they celebrated their 53rd anniversary this past March. Born in Allentown, Ed was a son of the late Edward and Laura (Shimineck) Emery. Ed worked as a maintenance engineer for the County of Lehigh before retiring. Prior to that he worked for the former At&T, the former Lehigh Structural Steel, and the former Horlachers Brewery all in Allentown. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Allentown. Ed was a 1952 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and was a member of the 1952 State Basketball Championship team. Ed was inducted to the Central Catholic Wall of Fame for his high school accomplishments. He was a member of the former Young Mens Society and the Ukrainian Club in Allentown. Survivors: Surviving with his wife Ruth are sons; Edward W. and his wife Tammy of Coplay, John C. and his fiancee Tama Nederostek of Whitehall, daughters; Diane wife of Richard Derhammer of Coplay, and Kathleen L. Rittoper of Mertztown. Ed has three grandchildren and two great grandsons. Services: There will be a mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians. Calling will be on Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:40 a.m. in the ODonnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Ave. Allentown. Contributions: In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the American Lung Association 2121 City Line Rd. Bethlehem, pa. 18017.

I'll never forget how many times I made my way up from the basement to borrow one of his 16oz Schmidt's and he would look at me and know that he was never going to get the replacement. I think I did buy him 1 case but most probably helped him drink it as well. He was a very good man and very easy going. Wish i could let things not bother me like Mr. Emery.
