Dear Steinbach/Kostelnik family, Please accept my heartfelt condolences in the passing of this amazing, genuine, compassionate, smart, funny and creative person. I was a novice reporter for The Evening Chronicle when I met her. When she learned that I loved to swim, she invited me and another reporter to her house - no strings attached. She was so lovely to treat us like friends or family. I also remember a tour of the house revealed overhead tunnels between bedrooms for her children to explore and meet.. and tiny characters inside what appeared to be a medicine cabinet!! It was long ago and I wish I had gotten to know her so much better, but she made a last ing impression on me and I'm certain saved many lives... OH! and matching license plates that said "Bear"?

I met Dr. Steinbach while I was a reporter for the Evening Chronicle newspaper in Allentown. She was promoting a program she was presenting at Sacred Heart Hospital. We became friends in the process. I also interviewed Dr. Kostelnik and we discussed his work as a pathologist. I joined the family at their home one summer with a friend, Ann Wlazelek, and Kevin and Keith told us of their plans to have their own practice as cardiologists. Although many years have passed, I fondly recall Betty, Francis and their sons, and wish them peace and comfort in their loss.
Respectfully, Sally (Schaffer) Luckenbach, Bethlehem, PA

The lady with the green ink. She always wrote her progress notes in the charts with that distinctive color which made them easy to follow. I first met her in 1961 when I was a junior intern at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a great mentor and taught me a lot about medicine. I got to know your dad Frank as well who was always reviewing pathology slides with me. I have fond memories of them both.

Betty was/is one of my favorite people I have gotten to know in my life. Always smiling, always open to chat, always quick with a funny story and always eager to hear about what was going on with others lives. When I first met Betty, she gave me a piece of her pencil cactus which I still have to this day! She had an infectious smile and I will certainly miss being her "neighbor" and our talks. Our sympathies go out to your family during this tough time.
