Elmer Effting Jr.

Elmer J. Effting Jr. 87, of Allentown, passed away on Tuesday March 13, 2018. Elmer was the husband of Sarah A. (Makin) Effting and they celebrated their 61st anniversary this past September. Born in La Salle, IL, he was a son of the late Elmer J. and Dorothy V. (Kaszynski) Effting Sr. Elmer proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. For 60 years, Elmer was a maintenance foreman for Appolo Metals in Bethlehem, retiring in 2008. He was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues at the American Legion Post 421 in Bath, the Seniors at the Rose Bowl, and in the Midway Manor mixed league. He one time bowled a 299 score. Elmer was active in the Midway Manor Community Association where he was named Citizen of the year. Surviving with his wife are his children: Joseph (Diane) of Bethlehem, James (Brenda) of Emmaus, Michael (Kelly Ann) of Northampton, and Cynthia wife of Steven Hummel of Northampton. His sisters are: Georgia wife of Robert Egge, Carole wife of David Lohr, and Susan wife of Peter Kolarik. Elmer has 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Elmer was preceded in death by his siblings: James, Thomas, and Jacqueline Deininger. Funeral services will be on Monday March 19, 2018 at 11:00 am in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 908 Hanover Ave. Allentown. Calling will be on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Elmer's memory to the Salvation Army c/o the funeral home.
