Elwood D. Yeakel
Elwood D. Woody Yeakel, 90, of Nazareth, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at his home. Born December 20, 1919 in Moorestown, he was the son of the late Robert and Estella (Hawk) Yeakel. He and his wife Margaret Peggy (Angelmire) Yeakel were married October 8, 1960. He was a Construction Superintendent for Ray B. Bracy Construction Company, Allentown for many years before retiring. Woody was a member of Nazareth Moravian Church where he served as an Elder, Trustee and on the Diener Corps. He also wound the church steeple clock for over 35 years. He served in the Air Corps and was held as a prisoner of war during World War II. Survivors: Along with his wife, he is survived by, sons James D. Yeakel of LaPlume, PA, Mark E. Yeakel of Nazareth, PA; daughters, Margaret A. Schoeneberger of Nazareth, PA, Catherine Y. Mingora of Saylorsburg, PA; brothers, Marcus Yeakel of Bath, PA, Keneth Yeakel of Guildford, CN, Elmer Yeakel of Nazareth PA; sister, Gloria Meixell of Wiscasset, ME; seven grandchildren. Services: A celebration of life service will be at Nazareth Moravian Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nazareth Moravian Church Steeple Fund in care of the Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home, Inc., 211 East Center Street, Nazareth, PA.
