Gavin Krum Obituary
Gavin Lee Krum, 14, of Lehighton, lost his battle of fighting complications brought about from his recently-diagnosed Leukemia in the very early hours in the morning of Tuesday, November 27, 2012. This courageous and determined young man had been an intensive care patient in the Penn State Hershey Childrens Hospital for many weeks leading up to his untimely death. Gavins short life was very full and offered all of those he touched much joy, love, and compassion. Born on April 9, 1998, he is the son of David and Lora (Long) Krum, and was an eighth grade student at Lehighton Area Middle School. Gavin was a percussionist in the middle school band, as well as a member of the middle school chorus. In addition, he was on the Junior Bowling League at Fritzs Lanes in Lehighton, was involved with the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band, a member of Zion Opera Workshop, and Zion United Church of Christ, where he had been involved in the junior choir and bell choir as well. All who knew Gavin are aware of his tremendous interest and knowledge in Transformers, which includes a huge collection of action figures, movies, and facts. He was always enthusiastic in explaining and exposing others to all he knew about them. Gavins loving personality and sense of humor will be terribly missed by all who knew and love him. Survivors: In addition to his parents, Gavin is survived by his grandparents, Shirley (Higgins) and Henry Long; aunts and uncles, Henry (Long) Jr. and wife, Sally, Eric (Long) and wife, Linda, Linda (Long) Muffley and husband, Mike, Kevin (Long) and companion, Carolyn, and Lauren (Krum) Tertocha and husband, Jim; as well as many loving and close cousins. Gavin previously suffered the loss of his older brother, Dylan, in 2010 and was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Joan (McDonald) and Nevin Krum; and uncle, Kenneth Krum. Services: Funeral service Saturday, December 1 at 11 a.m. at Zion U.C.C., 2nd and Irons Streets, Lehighton, PA, with Reverend Allen Heckman officiating. Committal service to follow at Lehighton Cemetery. Calling Friday, November 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home, 3rd and Alum Streets, Lehighton, and Saturday, December 1 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Schaeffer Funeral Home, Lehighton is in charge of the arrangements, and online condolences may be made at www.schaefferfunerals.com. Contributions: Can be made to the In Dylans Arms ministry, a mission that Gavin was passionately involved with, to help families who are dealing with a serious illness of a child, c/o Zion U.C.C., 2nd and Iron Streets, Lehighton, PA 18235, or the Dylan and Gavin Krum Fund c/o Jim Thorpe National Bank, 145 S. 4th Street, Lehighton, PA 18235, which is to provide scholarship monies to students, or the Ronald McDonald Charities of Central Pennsylvania, rmhc-centralpa.org.

I didn't know your sons, but I too lost a child to cancer in 2007. It almost killed me. To have to go through that heartbreak twice is incomprehensible to me. I am so very very sorry for the loss of Gavin. He sounds like a wonderful young man.
