Helen Grieff Obituary

89 years of age, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, January 17, 2021 at Westminster Village, where she was a resident for many years. Formerly of Whitehall, Helen was the youngest of 7 children born to the late Frank and Anna (Lebezeit) Gigler. She grew up on 5th street in Allentown and frequently played in Jordan Parkway, graduating from Central Catholic HS in 1949. As a young adult, Helen worked for Freeman Jewelers and later in life she worked as an office administrator for Dr. Alexander's medical practice, retiring in 1990. A long time parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Allentown, in retirement Helen volunteered at the Phoebe Home, enjoyed Saturday night couples dinners, playing cards with her neighborhood friends, and morning walks at the Lehigh Valley Mall. Her joys in life included spoiling her grandchildren, hosting family at the beach, and shopping the sales at the mall department stores where the clerks knew her by name. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Joseph Grieff, who was a regular fixture in The Neighborhood at Westminster - visiting and feeding her meals near daily until the pandemic restricted access. Helen was predeceased by brothers, Adolph, Frank, Bill and Joseph Gigler, and sisters Emma Stopay, Anna Gigler, and Margret Woodring. In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her son Greg Grieff, wife Karen, grandchildren Jake, Trevor and Andrea of Ellicott City, MD; son Peter Grieff and girlfriend Rosemarie Kolodich of Whitehall. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 25, 2021 at 10:00 am in Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 1046 W Cedar Street Allentown, PA 18102, where her viewing will begin at 9:00 am. Memorial contributions honoring Helen may be presented to the Church at the address listed above or to Allentown Central Catholic High School, Development Office, 301 N. 4th St., Allentown, Pennsylvania 18102 to benefit student scholarships.

Joe, so sorry for your loss. I have many memories of Helen over the years. I will never forget my first visit to your house back in the spring of 1988. That meal with gravy was my introduction into your house and family. Over the years, Helen was always welcoming and a wonderful host for a visit at any time no matter the reason (many mechanical in nature involving a mess in the garage or driveway). I feel very lucky to have experienced Helen's caring and compassionate home. Prayers with you and hopefully see you soon.

Helen and I were in the 1949 class at CCHS and the same homeroom. Our pictures are side by side in the year book.
To Joseph,
May the memories of the happy times you shared with Helen bring you comfort and healing.

Joe and Boys. So sorry to hear of the passing of a beloved wife and a loving mother. She was a great friend and miss our times we had together. While working with Helen during our years with Dr. Alexander she taught many valuable lessons which I carry with me today. Thank you for sharing her with the world. She will be missed by all the lives she has touched. May you find comfort in Gods Everlasting Love to get you through this most difficult time. God Bless.
