Herbert Rafner Obituary

Herbert M. Rafner
Herb Rafner, 90, formerly of Salisbury Township, passed away June 25, 2010 in Mission Viejo, California. After his wife of 58 years, Wanda, passed away in 2006, he moved to California to be near his favorite son, Leon Rafner, and his wife Andrea, of San Juan Capistrano. Herbert was born in Passaic, N.J., to M. David and Gertrude (Singer) Rafner. He was raised in Patterson, N.J. Following his graduation from East Side High School, and New York University he enlisted in the Army Signal Corps serving in WWII and obtaining a First Class FCC Radio License. Instead of pursuing a career in radio, he entered NYU School of Law, where he graduated on the Law Review in 1948. He was the Vice President and General Counsel of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and likely was the last surviving officer of the railroad, headquartered in Bethlehem, Pa. After retirement, he earned his FAA license as a Private Pilot and continued to practice law as an associate with the Stevens & Johnson firm of Allentown, finally giving up his practice at the age of 83 to care for Wanda. Services: Private Graveside at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ. Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown. Contributions: In his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia PA 19106.
