Howard A. Dunfee
Howard A. Dunfee, 97, of Bethlehem, formerly of Phillipsburg, N.J. passed away Friday, August 15, 2008, at Easton Hospital in Wilson Borough. He was born October 30, 1910, in Jamesburg, N.J., to the late Howard A. Dunfee and the late Hilda Cramp Dunfee. He and his wife, the former Edna Shive celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on December 22, 2007. He lived in Bethlehem for the last 20 years and before that he lived in Phillipburg, N.J. Howard was a member of the Phillipsburg Police Department for 29 years retiring as a sergeant in 1968. After retiring, he worked for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission for seven years, retiring in 1975. Howard was the oldest living in age member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Phillipsburg, N.J., a member of Phillipsburg Lodge 52, F & A.M. for 60 years, Warren County Forest 14, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Crescent Temple Shrine, in Burlington, N.J.; life member of Easton Fleas Club, Life member of Citizens Hose Company, the Easton AARP. He attended Phillipsburg High School. He was an avid bowler. He had bowled in the former Masonic Bowling League and the Retired Mens Bowling League at Bel Pike in Belvidere, N.J. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and watching bowling tournaments on television. Survivors: Son, Dale H. Dunfee of Phillipsburg, N.J.; daughters, Lynn D. Castner of Bethlehem, Terry Gray of Leesburg, Va,; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Earl, Russell and Meredith Dunfee. Services: A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23, at St. Lukes Episcopal Church 500 Hillcrest Blvd. Phillipsburg, N.J. No calling hours. Entombment of the cremains will be in St. Pauls Chapel of the Church. The Rupell Funeral Home in Phillipsburg is is charge of arrangements. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Phillipsburg, N.J. 08865.
