James Dewire Obituary

James E. Dewire
James E. Dewire, 80, of Hanover Township, was called home to be with the Lord while peacefully sleeping on Thursday, February 17, 2005 in his home. He was the husband of Alice R. (Herring) Dewire. They celebrated their 57th anniversary last June 14. Jim graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1942 and entered the Army, where he served for three years during World War II as a staff sergeant under General Patton. He fought in Germany, France and Italy, including the Battle of the Bulge and St. Mary Eglise. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service. He was a carpenter for the Reading Railroad, Tamaqua. In 1965, he started Jim Dewire and Sons General Contracting. He also owned the Fishermans Net Christian Bible and Gift Shoppe. Born in Tamaqua, he was a son of the late John Howell and Fannie (Dewire) Richards. Survivors: In addition to his beloved wife are sons, James A. and his wife, Mary E. Dewire, Jeffrey J. and his wife, Sharon Dewire, and a daughter, Alyssa D. and her husband, Leo J. Gould III, all of Hanover Township; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary Baptist Church, 111 Dewberry Avenue, Bethlehem. Call 9:30-11 a.m. in the church. Arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
