John Nemeth Obituary
John Whitey L. Nemeth, 69, of Vero Beach, FL and Macungie, PA, died peacefully at home on August 25, 2011 with his beloved wife Marlene (Piatt) and sons Carey and Michael at his bed side. John willed to live for family and friends and courageously fought cancer for 8 years. They were married August 25, 1962, in love and committed to each other for those 49 years. John is the son of late John and Rose (Sos) Nemeth of Indian River, FL. John graduated class of 1959 from Saint Phillips and Saint James in Phillipsburg, NJ. John worked, studied, and taught in the field of Computer and Information Science for 37 years and retired from Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. MIS-International as a senior manager. He held various part-time teaching positions at Desales, Lehigh, Muhlenberg, and Penn State Universities. John held a BS in Mathematics from East Stroudsburg, an MS in Mathematics from Trenton State, an MBA from Lehigh Universities, and attended Villanova University. He was a member Saint Thomas More Church in Allentown, PA and Saint Helens Church Vero Beach, FL. He was a former member of Brookside Country Club, Macungie, PA. John loved working outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his two sons in the mountains and on the Delaware River. John was an avid tennis player, skier, and an exceptional dancer. John especially loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren on the Delaware River. Survivors: Beloved wife Marlene; sons Carey his wife Elizabeth (Colombell) and Michael; sister Shirley Bussenger; brother Barry; and sister Donna Curcio; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michael, Kevin, Julia, and Kathryn. Brother and sisters in-laws with nieces and nephews. Services: A viewing will be held on Friday September 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1619 Hamilton Street, Allentown. John was such a well-respected leading manager at Air Products. I worked under his group for many years and he took such good care of me and my own career. I was able to thrive so well under his wonderful leadeship -- others did as well. He was so quiet and low-keyed, yet light-hearted at times. His balance and magic around him was everywhere -- he will never be forgotten.

We were so sorry to hear about Whitey's passing. I remember the great times we had growing up on the flat's in P'Burg,
playing ball together in High School, and in later years the great times we had at Camp Hugh Beaver with the kids, and later on at Bob Shandor's parties and picnics, the great canoeing on the Deleware, etc. It seemed he lived a great and loving life and these memories are what will keep you going. My sincerest sympathies to the family of my former classmate. I regret that we were unable to attend the viewing and funeral because of family obligations. We so much enjoyed the 50th year class reunion with Whitey and Marlene and the other classmates, and we saw him in good spirits. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you at this time of loss. We hope that God will give you strength to go on and fondly remember the good life that he lived with you.

Debbie and I were deeply saddened to hear that John lost his courageous battle. Your family is in our hearts and prayers at this very sad time.
I met your husband and dad on my first day at Air Products in 1968. I shared his office and worked with him on my first several projects. He was a great mentor and quickly became a very special friend. Within the first few days I worked with him, he invited me to your house for lunch and to meet you. It was apparent then that the three of you, and later his grandchildren, were the pride of his life. Several years after I met you, we became next door neighbors and shared many wonderful times together. I will always cherish the memories from those years.
John's responsibilities at Air Products took him to many international locations. When I visited or talked with people from those locations, even years later, the one person from Allentown they would always ask about and send their regards to was John. Even though there were language and cultural differences between him and his international colleagues, John was highly regarded for the assistance he provided and for his genuine friendship not just in Allentown, but around the world.

Marlene and Family,
I was very sorry to hear of John's passing. I have many wonderful memories of John and will always remember his kindness and good humor. I always said I was very lucky to have had John as my first boss at Air Products. John always made himself available to talk to you when needed. He spoke proudly of his family. To the Nemeth Family:
When I joined Air Products in 1987, John was the director of the IT team.
He was a great guy, always checking on me -- looking after the "new kid". He had some wonderful stories about this career at Air Products and the trips he had taken.
John was a wonderful man to know -- funny, quick with a story, a real person who cared about his work and his family.
My life is better having known John.

I worked for John in the early 1990s at Air Products--in Trexlertown, and in Tokyo. (Mrs. N, you won't remember, but we met when you came to Tokyo with John on one of his many trips.)
John was--memorable, remarkable, likeable...wonderful. There are many, many people who worked with John over the years with wonderful stories to tell of funny moments, funny events, or simply funny situations with John--in all parts of the world.
I'm deeply grieved to hear of his fight with cancer--and deeply grieved for your loss. John is one of my favorite colleagues in a long career, and I'm deeply sorry to hear of his passing.

my uncle whitey who could ask for a better uncle and godfather.he treated me more like a daughter than a niece when i was younger i always went wherever they did.numerous trips to the shore at their side.i will never stop loving you uncle whitey.but im glad your not in pain anymore and you are with my dad. love,heather

The Nemeth family,
I feel privilaged to have known John even for the past few years. It was incredible to see the challenges that he faced,and the way he met them. He was an inspiration to all of us at WCK. My only regret is that I didn't know John longer.

I was so sad to see the passing of your husband/dad in the paper this morning. I have such wonderful memories of Mr. Nemeth as a neighbor and a baseball dad, during the American Legion days of my dad, and the Ancient Oak Crew. I always remember him with a smile on his face, cheering on his sons, while standing next to his partner. I pray that all of your happy memories, and good times makes it easier to get through this difficult time.

John was my manager then my co-worker for over 20 years at APCI. We had adjoining offices for most of those years. He was a great guy to work for and to work with. He will be greatly missed.

It is a very sad time to hear a great man passing on.
Still to this day I have to say John was the best boss I have ever worked with.
He exemplified great character, hard work, vision, and heart.
He believed in the people who worked under him and always supported them 100%.%0D
He was a great mentor, a great leader, and best of all a great friend.
I will miss John deeply.
I will always remember John kicking my butt in Tennis while on a business trip in Brazil.
I have to say I am very honored and lucky to have worked with him.
I have to thank him for the opportunity to endeavor in some of the best experiences of my life.
I wish Marlene and John's family only the very best. I wish them great strength to get through this difficult time.
