Joseph Gillmeyer Obituary

Joseph F. Gillmeyer Sr., 74, of Gino J. Merli Veteran Center, Scranton, formerly of Allentown, died April 21 in Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit, Scranton. He was married to Grace L. (Jackson) Gillmeyer for 49 years last May. He worked in sales for Westinghouse Electric Corp., Allentown and Philadelphia, for more than 37 years before retiring in 1984. Previously, he worked in general food services for Yocco's, Allentown. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Edward and Anna (Wipf) Gillmeyer. He was a member of Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a crossing guard at 18th and Turner streets, Allentown. He was a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Calvary Council 528, Allentown. Survivors: Wife; sons, Michael J. and Joseph F. Jr., both of Allentown, John F. of Kuhnsville, the Rev. Brother Patrick S. of Aurora, Ill.; daughters, Regina M. Boka and Maureen G., both of Allentown, Kathleen Lauchnor of Slatington; sisters, Ann O'Neill of Philadelphia, Marcella Jesse of Johnson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren. Services: Mass, 10 a.m. Thursday in the cathedral. Call 8:45-9:45 a.m. Thursday, Robert C. Weir Funeral Home, 1802 W. Turner St., Allentown. Contributions: To the cathedral or Gino J. Merli Veteran Center.
