Joseph O'Callaghan Obituary

Joseph O'Callaghan, 67, of Nazareth, died peacefully at his home on March 13, 2021, with Jeannine, his loving wife of 38 years, Thomas, his son and best buddy, and Quincy and Maggie, his beloved pups by his side. Born in the Bronx, NY, Joe was the youngest child of Thomas and Catherine (nee Tyner) O'Callaghan. Following his graduation from Cathedral College, Joe was employed by Guardian Life Insurance Company, retiring in 2014 after 39 years. Joe will be remembered for his cunning wit and clever way with words, both written and spoken. He was an avid reader and book collector. Joe appreciated good music, literature, film, and theater. True to his Bronx upbringing, he was a devoted Yankees fan. Due to Joe's uncanny ability to answer the most obscure questions, we often joked that Joe was our Google. A friend summed him up best as the guy that always did the right thing. Our world will be a duller, more colorless place without Joe. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents and brother, John O'Callaghan. In addition to his wife and son, Joe is survived by his sister-in-law, JoEllen O'Callaghan and her children, Liam O'Callaghan, Neil O'Callaghan, and Regan Hourigan, sister, Mary Fosbrook and her son, Andy Fosbrook, brother, Tom O'Callaghan and his wife Donna and their children, Meghan Bower and Erin Thompson. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private. A Memorial Catholic Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph F. Reichel Funeral Home Inc., of Nazareth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph's memory to "Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center" and mailed to: 1275 York Ave. New York, NY 10065, or to "Holy Family Catholic Church" and mailed to: 23 Forest Drive, Nazareth, PA 18064. Joe was a remarkable man who constantly displayed his kindness, generosity and friendship to everyone. I was honored to have him as a close friend. I admired Joe for the way in which he gushed about the love he had for Jeannine and how proud he was of Thomas. And since we both shared a love of music, every year Joe would send me music CDs he thought I would enjoy. I will always cherish these CDs now. Reminiscing with Joe at the annual Guardian retiree luncheons was always a highlight for me. These luncheons will never be the same. Rest In Peace my dear friend. And Jeannine and Thomas, please take comfort in knowing how much Joe was loved on earth, and how he is now at total peace with our Lord!

What a good guy. It’s the best way to put it. He would do anything for you as long as he agreed with it. I would always read him my emails before I sent them out. He saved me from sounding like an idiot countless times. He meant so much to so many. Michele and I will miss him dearly. You guys are like family to us. Love Michele, Cary, Abby and Aaron.
