Karl Gabler Obituary

Rev. Karl A. Gabler
Rev. Karl A. Gabler a longtime resident of Doylestown, died on Monday, February 11, 2008 in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was 74 years of age. Karl was the loving husband of Shirley A. Muth Gabler, who survives. Born in Easton, he was the son of the late William A. Gabler and Mable (Miller) Gabler. Karl was a graduate of Wilson High School, Easton. He also graduated from Lehigh University, where he was president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Karl spent his early career with Bethlehem Steel Corporation, later attending Lancaster Theological Seminary of the United Church of Christ, where he received his B.D. After seminary, he served as pastor of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, now Trinity U.C.C., Bethlehem. Karl spent several years as director of community service for the Allentown Redevelopment Authority. Later he served as executive director of the Bucks County Housing Authority and director of its development corporation. Rev. Gabler was president of Shelter Associates. He was pastor of Tinicum United Church of Christ and served as hospice chaplain at Doylestown Hospital for 10 years. He retired from ministry in 2000, having served many churches in a variety of capacities. He also served many committees for the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ. Karl was proud to be considered one of the first members of the Order of Corpus Christi. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Karl is survived by two sons, Phillip Gabler, his wife, Patricia and their daughters Kimberly and Emily, all of Doylestown and Erik Gabler, his daughter, Lily, of Phoenix, Ariz. Services: A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Salem United Church of Christ, 186 E. Court Street, Doylestown.
