Ludwig Unger Obituary

Ludwig Unger, of Bethlehem, born December 22, 1925, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Ludwig was the son of John and Theresa Unger, of Bethlehem. He was the beloved husband of 68 years to Helen (Kuseryk) Unger.

Ludwig served his country in the Pacific Theatre of WWII, working as a radarman aboard the US Navy's LST-562, and then worked at the Bethlehem Steel's Coke Works for 36 years. A lifelong Catholic and an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Ludwig was known for his incredible resilience and his enduring love for family and friends. His uncanny ability to build and repair anything will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Ludwig is survived by his four children, Ronald T. Unger and his wife Kandy (Bethlehem), Patricia Mueller (Randolph, NJ), Thomas J. Unger (Bethlehem), and Carolyn Goodman and her husband Charles (Wexford, PA). He leaves 6 grandchildren and their families, each of whom held a special place in Ludwig's heart: Brian Mueller and his son Zachary; Matthew and Leigh Mueller and their children Caroline and Kit; Laura and Benson Igarabuza and their children Hugo and Isana; Gregory, Connor and Eric Goodman and his fiancé Moira LeMay. He was predeceased by his wife Helen, his 2 brothers John and Fred, and his beloved son-in-law William F. Mueller.

A viewing will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA. On Saturday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m., there will be a mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Road, Bethlehem, PA. There will be a viewing an hour before the service in the vestibule of the church.

In honor of Ludwig's example, remember to always express your love to your family. Donations in lieu of flowers to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 3219 Santee Road, Bethlehem, PA 18020.
