Morris T. Stephens, 83, of Allentown, died Monday, April 20, 2009 in his home. He was the husband of the late Shirley C. (Snyder) Stephens. Born in South Whitehall Township on March 22, 1926, Morris was the son of the late Allen E. and Salome F. (Knauss) Stephens. He was employed as an auto body technician for Bennett Auto Body Shop, Bethlehem, for 22 years before retiring in 1986. Prior to that, he worked for Shoemakers Garage, South Whitehall Township, for 16 years. He also was the co-owner of the former Stephens Tree Farm. Morris faithfully and honorably served his country in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Active in the life of his church, Morris was a member of Jordan United Church of Christ, Allentown, where he was former choir member, deacon and volunteered on the Summer Festival Committee. He also was an active volunteer for the Jordan U.C.C. Cemetery Association. Survivors: Son, Lee A. Stephens and his wife, Sheryl, of Orefield; sister, Elizabeth R. Williams and her husband, Kenneth, in Rhode Island; grandsons, Tim, Derek and Patrick. He was predeceased by a daughter, Gail K. Hoffert, a brother, Ernest L. Stephens, and a sister, Katherine Tuel. Services: Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 in Jordan United Church of Christ, 1837 Church Road, Allentown, with the Rev. Dr. David Charles Smith officiating. Visitation period 9:30- 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Interment will follow the service in the adjacent parish cemetery.
